This past summer, FIT Academy’s own Angie Halama attended the prestigious Case Method Institute at Harvard University in Boston. Originally developed at Harvard Law School in 1870 and now used throughout Harvard‘s Law, Business schools, the Case Method transforms students from passive learners into active problem-solvers.

CASE METHOD IN THE CLASSROOM
Beginning this school year, Ms. Halama will incorporate the Case Method into high school Civics, History, Sociology, World History, Law, and Debate courses. Rather than memorizing facts, students will analyze real historical and legal cases, engage in live Socratic discussions, tackle complex problems with no single “right” answer, and support their thinking with evidence.
The Case Method has been implemented by more than 3,000 high school educators across all 50 states, with impressive results, including increased reading levels, stronger critical thinking and writing skills, higher AP and classroom exam performance, and greater civic engagement among students.

While the Minnesota state standards and curriculum will remain the same, students will experience the content through an engaging, discussion-based approach that is designed to build the skills colleges, employers, and communities value most.
